Male of (possibly, there are lots of beetles in the world) Prionus californicus beetle, a two-inch long beastie which I found dead in the gravel driveway of our Montana cabin.  I saw a couple more live ones flying around over the next few days.  I wanted to bring him home for one of the boys’ beetle collections (which they haven’t added to in years, but I couldn’t resist), so I used some pins to hold its legs and antennae in place until they dried in position.  Later I noticed the long, afternoon shadows of the pins, and the colors, and took this photo.  Fuji X-Pro1, 60mm, 1/350th @ f/5.6, ISO 200
